Wordpress Owned by Microsoft???
I wanted to take a look at Wordpress so I installed it on my server. There is an "importer" for blogger blogs so I used that to import my Central Park Wildlife blog into Worpress. It worked ok although I had to do a lot of handcoding to fix a bunch of small things. I finally got it looking ok but was not happy with the HTML editor so I decieded to stick with blogger.
To my horror, Wordpress had erased my blogger template and trashed all my blogger settings. It had also placed a nasty note in my blogger directory directing users to "real blog" software.
According to Wordpress:
What is this about? This smacks of something Microsoft would do. It took me quite a while to figure out what was going on and to fix things.
I don't care how good Wordpress purports to be. Any software that does what it did should not be used.
I'll stick with blogger with all its kinks and quirks. At least it's not evil.

If your blog says “temporarily out of service, discover a better blogging tool” it means the importer did not finish. Don’t worry, your original posts and comments are still there. All the importer did was change your template to something it could read. It meant to restore the template but was unsuccessful. Go to your Blogger dashboard and restore your template manually. You did make a backup first, didn’t you?Yeah, sure I did but why don't you tell me the above rather than put a stupid "discover a better blogging tool" with no further information?
