Mapuche Indians with Babies

photographer Cal Vornberger.

This photograph was taken in 1967 when I was an exchange student in Chile. A number of Mapuche Indians lived on the farm owned by the family I lived with. I lived in Temuco but would visit the farm on weekends. I scanned the slide in 2002 from a Kodachrome original whose color was just as vibrant as the day it was shot. Sadly the life expectancy of these Indians was very low and I doubt whether the boys or babies are alive today.
